Qld Drummond Basin Project

Drummond Basin Mineral Potential Mapping, Queensland

In 2005, Kenex Ltd developed regional-scale mineral potential maps for low sulphidation epithermal and Carlin-style Au mineralisation over the Drummond Basin in central Queensland, Australia. Mineral system models were developed for generic low sulphidation epithermal Au-Ag mienralisation which incorporated local variations based on the Pajingo deposit, and a Carlin-style Au model based on the Nevada-type deposits that incorporated local variations based on the Yandan and Wirralie deposits.

An exploration GIS was then developed from geological, geochemical, and geophysical data from the Geological Survey of Queensland and Geoscience Australia. 2D mineral potential mapping was then undertaken for low sulphidation epithermal Au-Ag and Carlin-style Au mineralisation using the weights of evidence spatial data modelling technique.

Based on the mineral potential maps, targets were then generated from the most highly prospective areas. These targets are attributed and ranked based on their relative prospectivity and can be used for prioritising followup studies at a more detailed scale.
