NT Tennant Creek Project

Tennant Creek Project, Northern Territory

Alongside client Emmerson Resources, Kenex has been applying our 3D mapping capabilities over the company’s extensive tenement portfolio within the Tennant Creek Mineral Field (TCMF), in Australia’s Northern Territory. The TCMF is characterised by high grade gold and gold-copper deposits, with historical production in excess of 5.5 million ounces of gold and 488,000 tonnes of copper.

A very productive relationship has developed between Emmerson and Kenex. Through this, the wealth of exploration data available in the TCMF and the significant experience Emmerson has gained from working in the TCMF, has led to new ideas on the genesis of copper and gold mineralisation, and importantly also to exploration targeting. The role of Kenex has been to apply the ideas of Emmerson to identify statistically robust geological parameters that predict the location of known deposits in the TCMF, and to use these in the search for undiscovered subsurface targets. Some 237 predictive maps were produced, which constitute the various elements of the mineral system model and empirical data derived from surface geochemistry and drill holes. The resulting 3D mineral potential map gave a weights of evidence success rate of 95.92% for predicting known deposits and 99.83% for the logistic regression modelling technique.

The project has helped Emmerson to identifying new areas with similar geological characteristics to the known major deposits and prospects, that have all the necessary ingredients for mineralisation, but for whatever reason have not been effectively explored. Emmerson has also been able to draw on the expertise and experience of funding partner Evolution Mining in the TCMF. Evolution themselves continue to employ a cutting-edge approach to the exploration of their other assets.

The Northern Territory is also mostly positioned within the Central Australian Heat Flow Province, a belt of anomalously high surface heat flow. It is believed to contain several regions capable of generating hot rock style geothermal energy. Read more about our Northern Territory geothermal energy modelling.
