Botswana Mineral Potential Projects

Botswana

Botswana is one of Africa’s richly mineral endowed countries and its borders are conveniently positioned over the continent, allowing explorers access to a diverse range of mineralised terranes and mineral systems. These include systems such as iron-oxide copper gold (IOCG) in the Lufilian Arc in the northwest; granite related gold and mafic related nickel-copper-PGE deposits in the Rhodesian Craton and Limpopo Mobile Belt to the east; Bushveld style mineralisation from large igneous provinces in the south; stratiform copper in the Damaran Mobile Belt to the north; and younger, diamond-hosting kimberlite pipes in central Botswana.

Botswana is considered relatively underexplored compared to some African countries and other continents around the world. With sound governance and permitting systems, along with encouragement towards activities by junior/small explorers, Botswana holds a lot of potential for mineral exploration success.

The excellent availability of digital geological, geochemical, and geophysical data makes Botswana an ideal region for GIS-based mineral potential mapping. Mineral potential maping over Botswana, Namibia, and Zambia for IOCG mineralisation was completed by Kenex in 2011, to upgrade our existing model over Namibia and Zambia, and to include newly available digital data over Botswana. At the same time, we completed mineral potential maps for sediment-hosted Cu mineralisation over all three countries. This modelling was undertaken on a continental scale and will be ideal for companies who are exploring for IOCG and sediment-hosted Cu mineralisation.

Kenex has produced mineral potential maps for these mineralisation styles for Discovery Metals Ltd.

Opportunities exist to complete detailed mineral potential maps over eastern Botswana. This could include models for orogenic gold mineralisation within the greenstone belts of the Zimbabwe Craton and for mafic associated nickel-copper-PGE mineralisation in the Limpopo Mobile Belt. Kenex would utilise newly acquired digital geology and detailed geophysical and geochemical data to create models which identify the best exploration targets in northeast Botswana.

Galane Gold who is operating the Mupane Gold Mine in the Tati Greestone Belt in northeast Botswana and hold an extensive exploration tenement package in the area is one such company making use of Kenex mineral potential mapping.
