Argentina and Chile Mineral Potential

Argentina-Chile Mineral Potential Mapping

The development of new business opportunities in the Latin American Market has long been a key project for Kenex. This has primarily been focused within Argentina, where a rapidly growing business relationship has been fostered with Buenos Aires based company Emprendimientos Energéticos y Desarrollos S.A (EEDSA).

EEDSA are wind industry professionals who have been involved in the renewable energy market in Latin America since the formative years of the sector. EEDSA has participated in numerous projects through the provision of advice and sector investment. Their experience comes from involvement in projects and developments in Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Mexico, Brazil, Costa Rica, and the Caribbean. EEDSA’s in depth knowledge of the sector and expert practitioners enable them to develop appropriate strategies for project development for regions or countries.

The key opportunities for the alliance are centred on the synergy the combined skills and experience of the two companies brings to the identification of new renewable energy opportunities in the region. The utilisation of the wind farm prospectivity tools Kenex has developed in conjunction with Aurecon, and the strong business connections and experience in the Latin American renewable energy and electricity sectors of EEDSA are providing an opportunity to determine where economic projects are likely to be best located and developed.

Additionally, the opportunities in the growing Argentinean minerals sector have been investigated further by the Kenex/EEDSA partnership. Mineral potential in the country is extremely good and a number of provinces and their local governments are positive about the contribution the minerals industry can make to Argentina. Many of the world’s largest minerals companies are present in Argentina already, and Kenex believes that opportunities exist to identify economic projects of a scale that are not necessarily of interest to top tier mining companies.

The exploration strategy being followed in Argentina so far has involved generation of a porphyry Cu-Au-Mo weights of evidence (WofE) mineral potential map in order to identify prospective regions for mineralisation from national scale data. The targets generated from this model were evaluated and ranked, and the most prospective targets were then followed up with more detailed data collection to develop a portfolio of possible mineral exploration projects in the country.
